Into the land of beer and strudels: having fun in Dresden

Let’s be clear; a visit to Dresden doesn’t imply a tedious museum after another, hearing about the city’s tragic past. Far from it! There are plenty of fun things to do, many of which include large squares, music festivals, great food and … plenty of beer!

Some of its most popular restaurants and outdoor terraces are located in the recently built Neumarkt, hosting the Frauenkirche. There are several options from where to choose to have some traditional German food, a large beer and the unmistakable apple strudel.

I had a main German dish, which I thought was HUGE:

And … a delicious apple strudel! How could I not? I don’t usually like dessert or sweet things of any kinds (ok, I won’t say no to skittles, merengue cake, flan, rice pudding and another Middle Eastern dessert), but apple pies and strudels have been a weakness of mine. It was well worth it, so fresh and soothing to my soul:

Towards the end of the afternoon, I wondered off the side streets leading to Neumarkt, full of horse carriages taking tourists around town.

And ended up in another square, where a music festival was setting up:

So, did I entice you with that strudel, or what?
