#CTC13: Capture the Colour Contest

I love photography. I take hundreds and thousands of pictures in each one of my trips, and then I torture myself for hours trying to decide which ones to publish. I love to capture images that prolong the feelings I experience when I travel and to promote the beauty that surrounds us. Which is why following my entry to last year’s Capture the Color Contest by Travel Supermarket, I had to participate again. When I found out that the lovely The World Wanderer nominated me, I immediately started to brainstorm on which pictures I should choose this year to best portray the colors of white, blue, yellow, green and red. Given in the past year, I’ve yearned more and more to spend time outdoors, I decided on a nature theme. Here are my entries for this year: flowers, trees, more trees, beaches and bright hues of colors within an outdoor museum.

WHITE:

Männlichen flowers Switzerland

Männlichen, Switzerland

This is my favorite shot of this year. Part of a three-day trip with my family to Grindelwald, a spectacular mountain resort in the Swiss Alps, I hiked on few of the 300 hiking trails and reveled at the perfection of the Swiss natural landscape. On one of our day trips, we took the cable car up to Männlichen, at 2,225m (7,300 feet). After a 30-minute ascent, we arrived on top, to a surreal panorama of the world-famous mountains of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Dressed in sneakers and shorts, it was quite an experience to be surrounded by snow and not be cold. We were not allowed to hike down as, although it was June, it was still covered with ice and snow,;however, my brother and I ventured with my four-year-old nephew to the peak of 2,343 m (7,687 feet) where these fragile snowdrops were gracefully blooming.

BLUE:

Peasant house Romanian Village Museum

Bucharest, Romania

Similar to my last year’s blue image, I couldn’t not bring homage to my hometown. I was able to capture this rich cobalt blue, entrenched in this peasant house inside the Romanian Village Museum. The Romanian Village Museum, lying on the Herăstrău lake shore in Bucharest, is one of the biggest and oldest outdoors museum in Europe. The museum boasts over 100,000 square metres, and contains 272 authentic peasant farms and houses from all over Romania. The uniqueness of this house with its blue trims and bright blue doors is not only invigorating at its sight, but a symbol of the diversity of Romanian peasant houses (the majority of houses being built out of wood, stone and hay, consisting of a neutral earthy color palette).

YELLOW:

Bonfire Turks & Caicos

Grace Bay Beach, Turks & Caicos

I took this shot on  a 4th of July barbecue & bonfire celebration in Turks and Caicos. It was one of those perfect beach moments, where after wining and dining on the world’s most beautiful beach, we watched as the sun set and fireworks began. With the sounds of music accompanying the night, a bonfire started. As the night fully took over, I snapped some pics as the flames intensified into a mad yellow and orange spectacle!

GREEN:

Grindelwald Switzerland

Grindelwald, Switzerland

This picture was also taken this summer in Grindelwald: a pastoral wonderland in the Swiss Alps, a region that produces so much green, it looks like postcard every way you turn. The high-altitude walk from Grindelwald – First to the Faulhorn mountain hotel and then on to the Schynige Platte is one of most picturesque hikes of the region. It’s perfect for avid hikers; I was accompanied by my family, along with my toddler nephews, and so we took  the aerial gondola up from Grindelwald to Bort, located at 1,600 m (5,250 feet) – where this shot was taken – and hiked down instead. It was pure perfection; I toddled along like Heidi along lush pastures and flower-filled meadows, while breathing fresh Alpine air.

RED:

Mount Royal trees Canada

Mount Royal, Montreal

This picture was taken during fall at Beaver Lake, in Mount Royal, Montreal’s largest park, designed by the same person who created New York City’s Central Park. Apart from the breath-taking yellow and orange hues of the other surrounding trees, I was in awe to see these incredibly vibrant, red maple trees. They are as traditional as they can be in Canada, but they looked quite unique in my mind. I could stare at them for hours.

I nominate:

The Blonde Gypsy

A Montrealer Abroad

Bohemian Trails

The Lazy Travelers

How to participate

The idea is to create a blog post with pictures showcasing your (original) take on the colors blue, green, yellow, white and red, to describe the picture, place and time it was taken, including a caption for each one. When you’ve finished writing your post, you have to nominate 5 other bloggers to take part in Capture the Colour Contest, by listing their website and letting them know as well. Note that you don’t have to be nominated to participate. Don’t forget to send your entry by the deadline of October 9thEntries made via Twitter must include @travelsupermkt and #CTC13 in their tweet when linking to your blog post.

Happy photographing! Who wouldn’t want to win a 3,000 pounds travel fund?
