An illustrated summer guide to the Hamptons

We’re midway through the summer in New York City and it’s HOT HOT HOT!! Between the sweltering heat, the hoards of people and the burning sidewalks, one has the moral duty to escape to the Hamptons!

Whether you choose the beaches of the South Shore, the vineyards of Sagaponack, the posh boutiques of Southampton or the trendy beach lounges of Montauk, there is plenty to keep you busy in the Hamptons, the quintessential Americana experience sprinkled with sophistication.

Surfing in Montauk

For the early risers, there is no better way to get your body pumping and the temperatures dropping than by hitting the waves in Montauk, followed by some cold beer at the Surf Lodge.

If you’d much rather start your morning with the cool kids at the Montauk Beach House, then a trendy summer outfit is a must, with a tote carrying all your beach essentials.

MontaukLighthouseFor a bit of sightseeing at the very last tip of Long Island, head on over to the Montauk Lighthouse for a quick tour and an exciting exploration of the shoreline. It’s an extended drive, but well worth visiting.

A ride through the vineyards and a picnic for lunch

One of the things that make the Hamptons so picturesque are its manicured green lawns, picked white fences and serene vineyards. Grab a bike to explore the charm of each village, and then stop by for a picnic lunch.

For the afternoon, you can easily spend a few hours strolling around Southampton and Bridgehampton – lovely towns filled with charming cafes and posh boutiques – while admiring the pastel-colored shingle-style houses. For the best espresso, don’t miss Sant Ambroeus for an authentic Italian experience.

Sailing and yachting in Sag Harbor

Any weekend in the Hamptons has to include a boat trip around Sag Harbor and a sun tanning session in Shelter Island.

SangriaThese are the perfect spots for some much-needed seclusion, while sipping a refreshing lemonade or a glass of red-wine sangria. Sunsets here are some of the best you’ll see in the North-East, so don’t hesitate to just lounge on the beach and take in the views.
